Audition Materials and Instructions

Auditions are done asynchronously and virtually.

The audition for the Main Ensemble will consist of two parts:

1) Singing an ascending and descending vocal exercise: You can choose between "High Voice" (Soprano/Tenor) and "Low Voice" (Alto/Bass). If you are unsure of your voice type, give both sets of exercises a listen, and select whichever you feel most comfortable in.

This part of our audition is to help us understand your vocal range, where you sound your best, and where we might seat you in choir this year.

2) Singing a Solo: This can be a former choir piece, a favorite song, music from a past voice exam, anything you love singing! It can be in any language, length, and style or tradition of music-making.

As you approach recording your audition, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Choristers are asked to submit (a) video recording(s) of the highest quality available to them (if you have an external microphone - USB Mic, on your headphones/earphones, etc. consider using this to help improve the audio quality).

  • Please ensure that all your videos (if you have multiple) are either shared in one drive folder, or that you include all links in your audition form.

  • In the audition form, you will find a link to audio files for each vocal exercise track. Please sing along to these files on your audition video (you should be playing these out loud on a device secondary to the one you are recording with).

  • You will submit your video(s) via link (Drive, Dropbox, YouTube unlisted video, etc.) that you will provide the conducting team in the audition form below. Please ensure that your videos are viewable until 3 days after audition deadline.

Audition deadline is September 14th at 11:59pm, the Monday night after Open Rehearsal.

If you have any questions or concerns about the audition process, you can contact us here, or ask us a question at our upcoming Open Rehearsal.
